He owned a 3/4-acre wooded lot at Cornwall Bridge, CT, where he studied conifer pests and old field ecological succession. Eugene Albert Cornelius was interested in early local history of New England. He collected antiques and some fine art. Eugene Albert Cornelius researched the family histories of his German and Austrian ancestors.

     Minnie was born before 29 June 1869 at Jackson County, Iowa.1 Conflicting evidence states that Minnie was born in 1874.2 She married Fred Eichler on 30 November 1904 at Salem Lutheran Church, Andrew, Jackson County, Iowa.3 Minnie Gabel died on 13 November 1936 at 1402 Blackhawk Street, Waterloo, Black Hawk County, Iowa.2,4 She was buried at Fairview Cemetery, Waterloo, Black Hawk County, Iowa.2
